Brief Description
This Sundial requires you to step up and be part of the experience. The Sundial is a 7 foot wide metal arc, resting on a stone platform. It is surrounded by four granite pillars. The four granite pillars are not a part of the sundial, but are used as telescope mounts for astronomy programs.

You get to be part of the sundial! Stand on the platform, and place your finger on the mark at the center of the bar that goes across the sundial. Your finger will now be the 'gnomon' of the sundial. Look for your shadow on the sundial. The spot where you can see your finger's shadow shows you the time!
In Depth Description
This Sundial requires you to step up and be part of the experience. The Sundial is a 7 foot wide metal arc, resting on a stone platform. The metal arc has numbers and lines engraved on it that correspond to the hours of the day.

It is surrounded by four granite pillars. The four granite pillars are not a part of the sundial, but are used as telescope mounts for astronomy programs.

In the middle of the metal arc there is a metal rod. The metal rod has a notch placed at the halfway point. When you put your finger on the metal rod in that spot, you become part of the sundial. If it is a sunny day, the shadow of your finger will be cast onto the numbers and lines shown on the metal bow.

This sundial was donated by the Worcester Host Lions Club on November 6, 1982, to commemorate their 60th anniversary. On that date, they placed a time capsule of Lion's Club belongings which was opened in 2022.

This is a bowstring equatorial sundial. To use it, one places their finger on the mark at the center of the horizontal rod. Tilt your finger so that it matches the tilt of the sundial. Your finger is the "gnomon" of the sundial. The shadow of your finger tells the time.
